OUR PHILOSOPHY
HEB Music and Dance uses the project approach to learning, which not only utilizes the whole brain and body in learning, but focuses on the higher levels of learning discussed in Bloom’s taxonomy. During our camps, students will learn about space, the circus, insects & animals, and wonderful, wet, water. By enhancing academic content with participation in fine arts activities students will learn more, retain the information learned and enjoy their experiences!
ART
As children learn fundamentals such as primary and secondary colors, texture, form, sculpting and painting, they will create wonderful works of art that only children can create. Art provides children with the means to gain control over their feelings, as a completed work of art establishes feelings of self-satisfaction and confidence. It also provides opportunities to develop fine motor skills as children manipulate brushes, crayons, scissors and clay. Art for children is personal, spontaneous, inventive and fun!
DRAMA
Drama is structured, goal-oriented creative play where young children are encouraged to explore their imaginations, learn how to communicate ideas in a variety of ways and learn how to feel comfortable with themselves. Through the use of props, narrative pantomime, play with puppets, and related activities children will learn self discipline, social skills and develop enthusiasm for the arts!
MUSIC AND DANCE
Playing instruments and moving to music are enjoyable, natural activities and help children learn many concepts. They teach balance and coordination through challenging moves and postures. It teaches rhythm and beat as children choreograph their movements with music. It even promotes children’s ability to predict what comes next by hearing repeated musical phrases. Creative movement is also an important tool for developing self-esteem and body awareness.
